Startup Land

This book tells the story of startup Zendesk. It was created by three guys in Dennmark. They created a software as a service for help desks. That is, you sign up for their product online. You pay for it online. There was initially not any heavy sales people involved.

The CEO is the narrator of the story. They had trouble getting funding in Dennmark. So they got an initial investment from a company in Boston. The 3 guys moved to Boston with their families to be close to their venture capitalist investor. That lasted for about a summer.

Later, the company had bigger follow on investments from venture capitalist firms in California. They moved to San Francisco to be close to those firms plus other startups. They eventually did an IPO and$9 a share. The share jumped up 50% on day 1, and quickly went up 100%.

The Legend of the Christmas Witch

This tells the story of young Santa Claus and his sister the witch. Santa was taken away by a couple that wanted a kid. The sister was taken in by a witch of the wood. The sister had powers. And they grew under the tutelage of the witch.

Eventually people got wind of the sister's powers. They wanted to hunt her down and kill her. So she set off in search of her brother, who she heard was at the north pole. She took a boat but landed at the south pole instead. There she met some penguins who became her friends.

Eventually she builds another boat and goes in search of her brother. She does find him. But the town folk want to kill her because she is a witch. She reunites one more time with her brother briefly. Then she became mad. And she stomps her feet, causing the ice to crack and the penguins and her to fall deep into the water and freeze.

Invest Like a Pro

I decided to give Amazon a little extra time to deliver a package to my house. In return, I got a $1 credit for digital goods. I spent it on this eBook: Invest Like a Pro (A 10-Day Investing Course). The title made me think I might learn some professional stock trading tips. Turns out this was a very basic small book on investing.

I did learn that a 403b was just like a 401k retirement plan. The only difference being that a 403b is run by a non-profit organization. That is not going to help me make money on stock trades. Neither did any other information from the book.

Little Children

Todd appears to be the main character. He was a college football star who wanted to go on to become a lawyer. But he can't pass the bar. His wife is a knockout who works at the Veteran's Administration hospital. Todd takes care of his young son Aaron. He is supposed to be studying to take the bar for the third time. Instead he has a summer affair with Sarah.

Sarah also has a young daughter. She has a weird distant husband. The husband himself has been fantasizing about an a deviant Internet model. Sarah eventually makes plans with Todd for each of them to leave their spouses behind.

Todd plays football with Larry, a retired cop who killed a kid. Larry has is out for Ronald, who is a child sex offender. At church, Larry breaks Ronald's arm by tossing him onto the pavement. Larry later causes Ronald's mom to have a stroke and die. Ronald dreams of purchasing a computer to take advantage of all the alleged porn on it.

Little Mix - Our World

This is a book about the British band Little Mix. It is a bit dated. The book goes up to around 2015 or 2016. The band won the British version of American Idol. This is their story.

The theme of the book is that YOLO. If you want something, you should go for it. However you got to be ready for obstacles and a lot of hard to work to overcome them.

There were a lot of pictures of each of the girls. They all seem close to their families, and especially their mothers. For some reason, they like Domino's pizza. They also like Japan and the Harajuku girls.

Joe College

 

Danny is a junior at Yale. He works as a dishwasher in the dining hall. His family is not wealthy. Danny's dad decided to buy a food truck and make a run as a business owner. Unfortunately his dad's health is not good. When Danny comes home for college breaks, he starts working in the truck with his dad. Later he tacks over the truck runs.

The truck has to make it to different sites on time for worker breaks. Danny gets up really early to collect the supplies and make it to the sites on time. Eventually some mobsters want to make a move on the food truck business. Danny tells the mobster's son to kick rocks. He says the same to the godfather. Later the mobster's son come with a baseball bat and some goods. Danny manhandles the son. In retaliation, the mobsters torch the food truck.

Danny met up with a past school girl he met on one of his truck runs. They got hot and heavy kissing, but it took a long time for her to give into sex with him. Once the deed was done, Danny lost interest and hid from her at his college. Eventually this girl shows up in Danny's dorm pregnant. Danny still tells her he is not ready to be a dad. The girl decided to get with a past boyfriend who will marry her.

Danny is more interested in a girl who is part of a literary magazine he is a part of on campus. This girl is Polly. She is complicated at she is sort of breaking up with a professor she was dating. However the professor and Polly still seem to want to be a couple, even though the professor has moved on to some other chick. The pregnancy ex-girlfriend of Danny gets in the way of Danny making progress with Polly.

Eventually Danny realizes he has lost with Polly. Instead he gets with a coworker at the dining hall, who does not attend school at Yale. She only works there. She is hot. The last guy that dated her got a severe beat down by her overprotective brothers. They literally put him in the hospital and he had to get a lot of surgery. To add insult to injury, the girl from the dining hall dumped the hospital-bound boyfriend.

Election

Election is a book about an election for high school president. There are a host of characters running as candidates. Paul is the jock. His sister is the anarchy type wildcard. Tracy is a hard worker with little to no friends. The funny thing is that the adults are the best characters in the story.

There is one teacher who is having an affair with Tracy. He gets found out and is gone immediately. Then there is Mister M, who I think is the main character. He teaches history. He also has an affair, but with a friend of the family whose husband left her. Mister M is one of the teachers who helps run the election.

There is some drama as Tracy goes into school one weekend and defaces Paul's election posters. Paul's sister takes the blame to aid in her making a case to transfer to a private Catholic school. Paul is also dating a girl that used to date his sister. Paul's girlfriend becomes his campaign manager.

The highlight of the book is the counting of the votes for the election. Paul voted for Tracy. And that put her ahead by 2 votes. Mister M did not like Tracy or her campaign manager. So he cheats and secretly tosses out 2 votes for Tracy into the trash. The next day, he is found out.
