His Very Best

This book is a biography of President Jimmy Carter. He grew up on his father's farm. He himself became a farmer. I had previously thought he only farmed peanuts. But he had other crops. I knew about his brother Billy. But I did not realize Jimmy also had a sister. Plus, he was a lot older than Billy. His wife was Rosalyn. She was named after a family member named Rose. Her name is supposed to sound like Rose.

Jimmy went to the Naval Academy where he was badly hazed. He was small, shy, and had a smile that irked upper classmen. He said they beat him mercilessly with things like a wooden spoon. Upon graduation, he took a tour on a submarine. He left early when his father died to take over the farm.

Jimmy was famous for The Camp David Accords. This is where he attempted to broker peace between Israel and Egypt. Although Anwar Sadar from Egypt could not speak for all Palestinians, it was a start. On Jimmy's watch, the Shaw (leader) fled Iran. The Ayatollah Khomeini return to Iran from exile. Students held American Embassy employees hostage in Iran. This, in part, led to Carter losing the election against Reagan for his second term.
